Who Am I?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been the go to person for people who seek an honest answer to their questions. I’m a no nonsense person, who shows her emotions on her face, laughs with you, cries with you and also says things like ”let’s try to find out”. A go-getter who hits the ground running with a passion for the field of neuroscience, psychology, making connections and open to know more than I knew yesterday. I value equality and will lead next to you. I’m most known for my infectious laugh, my braveness and adventurousness. As a therapist I see your potential maybe sooner than you are able to see it, but will help you find that path, and help you (re)connect to the people who will be there to support you. I believe in a humanistic and holistic approach in which not only your mind gets activated, but your body as well. I’m a native Dutch speaker who travels a lot and has been in contact with a lot of different cultures. This helps in being aware of the different views different cultures can have in what well being means.

Being from the Caribbean, family and connection matters a lot to me, which is why I’ve also specialized in systemic therapy, partner relationship therapy and group therapy. I believe we heal better and sooner together than when alone. Like the African proverb says ”if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. Let’s go together.

The Practice / Safe Place

At SHIPP, humanistic, transdiagnostic care is provided. This means that as much as possible we take into account your life  circumstances, social environment, cultural heritage and personal style.

For each client, I try to provide customized care as much as possible. I have been trained and worked in neuropsychology and general mental health care and offer treatments in accordance with these target groups.

Besides individual therapy, I also offer group therapy, system therapy, partner relationship therapy and training for loved ones who would like to understand more about the ailments that you are going through.

The Humming Bird Ideology

The hummingbird symbolizes living life to the fullest. The origami hummingbird is intricately folded and has many layers like our persona has. To fold and even unfold origami takes practice, precision, creativity and an approach that is specific to getting to the end result. The layers can represent life circumstances that we encounter, the people that we meet and form us and the family we are born into. In my culture family is important and creativity is something that runs in and connects me to my family. The hummingbird symbolizes my hands on nature: we will go as fast or as slow as needed, gathering along the way all the tools needed to get you living your life to the fullest again. If you look up the symbolism of the Hummingbird, you will find the following among others:

Freedom
Healers
Fulfillment
Energy

Connection
Joy
Perseverance
Beauty

Energetic
Inspire
Passion
Courage

Bearer of good news
Endless possibilities
Messengers

Rates & Reimbursements

SHIPP works without contracts. This means that no contracts have been concluded with health insurers. This means that a more customized treatment can be offered to you and it gives more privacy. If you are treated by a self-employed BIG-registered psychologist, you will in principle be reimbursed for the sessions from the basic insurance.

To qualify for reimbursement through health insurance, you need a referral letter from your GP. You must send this to SHIPP for the first consultation.

How much you will be reimbursed depends on your insurance policy (in kind or reimbursement). It is wise to contact your health insurer before the intake interview. You can then ask what exactly you will be reimbursed and whether there are any restrictions on your treatment, such as the number of sessions.

Ask your health insurer carefully what the market-conform rate means, because this may differ from the rate set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZA). If your insurer reimburses less than 75%, there is a good chance that you are still entitled to a higher reimbursement: the so-called obstacle criterion applies here . This means that the reimbursement for a natura policy may not be so low that it prevents you from going to a non-contracted care provider. In that case, you can insist on a higher reimbursement with your health insurer.

After each session you will receive an invoice that you pay to SHIPP. You can submit this invoice to your health insurer.

Insured Care Rates:

In mental health care, the care performance model is used. The NZA (Dutch Healthcare Authority) determines the rates that apply to certain services (intake/treatment/diagnostics).

If you are eligible for (partly) reimbursed care via health insurance, these rates will also be invoiced. A selection of the NZA rates pertaining to the services of a GZ psychologist in the category Outpatient – quality statute section II Health care psychologist:
